Southwestern Japan braced on Wednesday for what officials say could be one of the strongest storms to ever hit the region, as some residents in the path of Typhoon Shanshan were ordered to evacuate and major firms like Toyota closed factories.
Typhoon Shanshan is on a path that will bring strong winds, high waves and significant rainfall to most of the country.
As of Wednesday noon, the 10th typhoon of the year was located 90 kilometers south-southwest of Yakushima Island in Kagoshima prefecture and slowly moving northward.

The landslide hit a house where five family members were living -- a couple in their 70s, two women in their 40s and a man in his 30s,
